Anne came to Ocean City High School in September, 1976. She made an immediate impact on the already successful girls’ basketball team. She started every game throughout her four years of high school, during which time the Raiders were 92-14.
One of the great stories of athletic ability and courage of Ocean City High School. Anne was only one of three 4-year starters in the first two decades of girls’ basketball at Ocean City. By her senior year, she reached levels no other girls’ basketball player in South Jersey had ever reached. She scored more than 1,000 points and passed for more than 1,000 points by getting over 500 assists. Anne finished her career with 1,308 points and 588 assists, ranking her seventh (points) and first (assists) among Ocean City High School records at this time. In addition, she had 436 rebounds and 397 steals. |
During her high school career, Anne achieved the multiple honors:
All-Cape May County – 1st Team – 1978-1979-1980
All Cape-Atlantic League 2nd Team–1977-1978; 1st Team 1979-80
All Press Area – 1978, 1979, 1980
All-Tri-County – 1978, 1979, 1980

All South Jersey (All Groups) 1st Team – 1980
Ocean City High School – All-Century 2nd Team
Basketball statistics do not begin to tell the story of Anne. Even as a freshman, she commanded the respect of her coaches, teammates and opponents. She was the consummate floor leader and guided Ocean City teams to 3 CAL Championships and 3 south Jersey Group III Finals, including Ocean City’s first South Jersey Group III Championship in 1979. That team went to the State Group III finals losing to Paramus Catholic, led by future All-American, Olympian and professional player Ann Donovan. In addition to basketball, Anne and her twin sister, Margie, were successful members of the Girls’ Tennis Team.
After high school, Anne received a scholarship to Arizon State University. In the spring of her freshman year at ASU, she was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Disease that eventually led to her death in 1986. That year a scholarship was established in her memory. To this date over $26,000 has been awarded to senior female athletes at Ocean City High School.
